Overview & Motivation

Improve ability to recover underneath the ball

Physical Setup

- 3 cones/flags that players need to run around - 3 mini goals

Instructions

- Every attacking player must touch the ball both up and back down the pitch before scoring - 1 touch all the way - Players must run around the cone - Defenders start 5 yards behind the attackers and can begin chasing on the first touch - Once defenders win the ball, they try to dribble past the flags for a point - Ball can be stopped within 5 yards of the flag. Then blue will sprint around the flag

Coaching Points

In Possession: - Lead the runner, can't pass to where they are when you have the ball, must pass where they're going - Weight of the pass is important Out of Possession: - Big recovery runs to impact the attacker - You don't always need to win the ball, just need to ensure they don't score - Acceleration and deceleration is important to get in and out of your turns around the cone

Progressions

- If it's too difficult, allow 2 touches

Key Players

CMs: Big recovery runs to impact runs beyond you. No amount of work is too much in this drill Wingers: Transition at pace to lead your teammates with a pass. Must be able to finish with 1 touch
