Overview & Motivation

Improve ability to switch play

Physical Setup

Field is split into 3 vertical channels. Four gates are placed at each end. Players stand on the outside edge of the gates in 4 lines.

Instructions

- You can't score in the channel you start your possession in. - Ball gets played in from the coach. - If the ball goes out in your defensive half, then you're off and 4 new players come on - Dribble through the gates to score

Coaching Points

In Possession: - Wrap the ball around quickly to pull the opposition around - Need vertical runs, can't just stand in a line of 4 - It's a lot of space for 4 players to defend the width, create overloads and take advantage - Central combinations to create space out wide Out of Possession: - Stay compact and block off opportunities to swing the ball - Shift as a unit - Pressure/Cover - Don't let the opposition turn and face your goal

Progressions

- Having possession in all 3 channels unlocks the gate where the possession started. - Ball starts with players on the end - Add a 9 for each team

Key Players

CMs: Open up on the back foot and go the other way. Recognize how your movement opens up space for others. If you can drive and condense the lines, space will open up out wide. Wingers: Get used to staying wide. Don't creep into the middle just because that's where the ball is, we need wide options.
