Overview & Motivation
Improve ability to finish in the box
Physical Setup
- 4 teams of 4. One in possession, two defending, one as neutrals. - 18 yard box stacked to create a 44x36 - Four 4 minute games. Each team will be the neutral for 1 game.
Instructions
- Your team scores, you stay on - Neutrals are on 1 touch - If the attacking team doesn't score, then the defensive team receives a ball from the coach and transitions to attacking in the other half. - Need to be in the 18 to score a goal - No defending in transition moments after a ball is played from the coach
Coaching Points
In Possession: - Utilize wide neutrals to open up space centrally - Create separation for 1 touch finishes - Near Post First, Far Post Second Out of Possession: - Be brave for first contact - Apply pressure early to prevent shots -
Progressions
- Bonus point for scoring a 1 touch finish - Change transition rules to require defensive team to progress, rather than just not getting scored on - Winning team is decided per game instead of a running total - Ball starts with the GK instead of from the coach and teams need to build out
Key Players
CMs: Defend to attack transition and finding space as they crash the box STs: Inside the 18, every bit of space matters. All you need is a little room to get a shot off
