Overview & Motivation

Improve ability to receive between lines.

Physical Setup

2 Full goals. Field split in half. 5v5. Four 3 minute rounds.

Instructions

- 2 Attackers always have to be in the attacking half - You can pass or dribble into the attacking half to join and create an overload - Ball always starts from the GK

Coaching Points

In Possession: - Utilize the +1 overload to create space for the free man to progress the ball and join the attacking half - Vary your movements from possession to possession to keep the defense on their toes - Receive on the back foot to easily progress - Look for progressive forward passes when the opposition is unbalanced Out of Possession: - Make play predictable - Turn the 3v2 into a 2v2 - Keep the play in front of you - Be tight to the player as they receive to prevent easy turns

Progressions

- Allow freedom of movement - Add players - Add a bonus point for a 1 touch finish

Key Players

CMs: Receive between line and find pockets of space to progress the ball STs: Become comfortable dropping off the backline to connect with teammates. This is a great opportunity to train hold up play and provide teammates time to join and create the overload.
